On January 19th I attended a press conference, listening in horror as Governor Mills and Democrat legislators outlined a bill to change Maine law to allow abortion at ANY time, for ANY reason.

In response, on February 4th, we held the inaugural Speak Up for LIFE event in Auburn. Over 250 Mainers attended that event on the coldest winter day in decades! We held another seven events around the state with hundreds in attendance, laying the groundwork for mobilization against LD 1619, the bill to allow late term abortion in Maine. The mission of Speak Up for LIFE is to educate, empower, and mobilize Mainers to speak up on behalf of LIFE.

Since February we’ve been mobilizing THOUSANDS of individuals who have never been active in politics before. These folks didn’t just come out to the historic public hearing, which went through the night and into the next day. They also contacted their individual legislators, attended multiple events at the Statehouse (like June Action Days, when hundreds of people showed up to lobby their legislators every time we were in session), wrote dozens letters to the editor, and more!

Their lobbying efforts provided a significant impediment to LD 1619. It was supposed to just sail through, but instead barely passed.

Now, there are thousands of Maine citizens who have learned how to take individual action, which will be key in the next phase of Speak Up for LIFE!

In 2024 we have the opportunity to remove the legislators from office that refused to listen to Maine people and voted for late term abortion.

Together, we can replace them with pro-life legislators who will vote to support LIFE.
